Helensvale, QLD – October 28, 2024
In a brazen attempted theft that unfolded early on October 28th, two suspected thieves were seen attempting to break into a Mercedes SUV parked on a local resident's driveway in Helensvale. The incident, which occurred around 5:30 a.m., has left the community on edge as the suspects were caught in the act while trying to upgrade their joyride with a stolen vehicle.
The two individuals, who are believed to have arrived in a silver Mitsubishi Pajero — likely another stolen car — were spotted outside a residence in the early morning hours. One of the suspects, armed with what appeared to be a knife, was seen pacing back and forth near the driveway, while the other, barefoot, appeared to be keeping watch. Both men seemed frantic as they checked for any signs of the homeowner, peering into windows and attempting to open doors, possibly in search of a way to gain access to the house or the vehicle.
The Mercedes SUV, parked just outside the home, appeared to be the primary target. The two suspects tried to break into the vehicle but were unsuccessful. Authorities are now investigating whether this was part of a larger string of thefts or if the stolen Pajero they arrived in is connected to other recent crimes in the area.
One of the suspects was described as wearing black Crocs, while the other was barefoot — both exhibiting nervous, erratic behaviour. The sight of the knife has raised serious concerns among local residents, who are urged to remain vigilant.
The suspects were last seen fleeing the scene, hopping back into the stolen Pajero. Local law enforcement has launched an investigation into the incident, and they are appealing to anyone with information to come forward.
