In a bold daylight robbery, two middle-aged men, who appear to have just finished work for the day, targeted a property in Benowa Waters on the Gold Coast, leaving the community shaken. The incident occurred on Melbourne Cup Day as the suspects arrived at the home in a mini truck laden with tools, machinery, and other equipment.

The men, believed to either be legitimate tradies, or posing as tradies, pulled up to the property in the middle of the day and wasted no time breaking in. CCTV footage suggest the duo arrived with a mini truck, which appeared to carry various items such as ladders, a ride-on mower, a lawnmower, and other greenskeeping tools.

Once inside, the pair ransacked the home, seizing handbags, jewellery, and any valuables they could find. Early estimates indicate that thousands of dollars worth of luxury items were stolen, leaving the homeowners devastated.

The robbery happened shortly after the homeowners left for a social gathering to watch the Melbourne Cup, having been picked up by an Uber just moments earlier. The audacious timing of the crime suggests the perpetrators may have been monitoring the property or had prior knowledge of the homeowners’ schedule.

The suspects are described as middle-aged men dressed in work attire, likely to avoid suspicion. Their vehicle, a mini truck towing a trailer full of tools and machinery, raises questions about whether they were legitimate tradesmen who decided to commit the crime on impulse or if the vehicle and equipment were stolen.

Queensland Police are investigating whether the tools and equipment in the trailer were connected to previous thefts in the area. The mini truck’s details, including any license plate information, are being analysed through available CCTV footage. Queensland Police have confirmed they are investigating the incident and are urging anyone with information about the suspects or the vehicle to come forward. Detectives are also examining whether this crime is linked to any other recent property thefts in the Gold Coast region, particularly those involving tradie-style vehicles.

Residents of Benowa Waters and surrounding suburbs are being asked to check their home security cameras for footage that may assist in identifying the offenders or their vehicle.

The Gold Coast Torch encourages residents to remain vigilant and proactive in protecting their properties. By working together and sharing information, communities can help deter criminals and create safer neighborhoods.
