In the early hours of October 18, 2024, a local antique jewellery shop in Nerang, Gold Coast, was targeted by a pair of masked thieves. The break-in occurred around 2:00 AM, resulting in the loss of the owner's life savings, which included valuable gold, silver coins, and unique jewellery pieces.
The shop's owner is devastated, especially since they were uninsured due to prohibitively high premiums. "We have suffered substantial losses and just want our belongings back," the owner expressed.
Despite the swift response from local authorities, including police officers, LNP representatives, and two detectives who conducted forensic examinations for fingerprints, there has been little progress in the case. A week has passed with no updates from the police, leading to concerns that the stolen gold may already be melted down.
Additionally, it has come to light that the thieves were driving a stolen white VW Golf and had also broken into a tobacco shop in Molendinar shortly before the incident at the jewellery store.
The owner is appealing to the community for assistance. If anyone has information about the theft or the suspects, they are encouraged to reach out. Tips can be provided anonymously, and a cash reward is offered for any valuable information.
"We appreciate any help the community can provide," the owner said. "Thank you for your support."
