Pimpama Police have charged a 34-year-old Ormeau man with five counts of stealing after he allegedly stole over 31 items from stores across the Gold Coast region over a two-week period in July. The charges come as part of a broader investigation into a string of thefts that targeted multiple businesses in Pimpama, Bethania, and Rocklea.
According to police, the man visited various hardware and retail stores, taking a range of high-value items, including building materials, paint, tools, and electrical equipment. These alleged thefts disrupted local businesses and caused significant loss, prompting police to step up efforts to identify and apprehend the suspect.
In addition to the stealing charges, the man received 10 infringement notices for allegedly using an unregistered vehicle to travel to each of the stores where the offences were committed. Police allege that he drove the unregistered vehicle across multiple locations during this two-week crime spree.
Police confirmed that the 34-year-old is scheduled to appear in Southport Magistrates Court on August 23 to face the charges. Officers are continuing their investigation to determine whether additional charges will be laid or if other individuals were involved.
The case has highlighted concerns within the community regarding thefts from businesses, with police urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity. Local authorities are calling on business owners to review security measures to help prevent similar crimes and protect valuable inventory.
