A bold attempt to steal a blue Subaru WRX in Bundall has left a local resident rattled, as a group of approximately four teenagers fled the scene in what is believed to be a stolen black Peugeot SUV. The incident occurred late yesterday and highlights an ongoing issue of car thefts and reckless behaviour among youth offenders on the Gold Coast.

The owner of the fully-specced out Suburu reported seeing a group of teenagers, described as being around four in number, attempting to break into his blue Subaru WRX in a residential area of Bundall. The attempt was thwarted when the teens, likely spooked by the owner, quickly abandoned their efforts and fled the scene.

Likely embarrassed as they were confronted by the owner, they rushed back into their getaway car.

The group reportedly jumped into a black Peugeot SUV parked nearby. The vehicle bore New South Wales plates with the combination CW 05 JL, which featured the traditional yellow background common in NSW. Observers noted the suspicious nature of the situation, leading to speculation that the Peugeot itself was also stolen.

The teens were last seen speeding away from the area, with witnesses reporting their direction of travel to police.

Gold Coast Police are now investigating the incident, including the origins of the black Peugeot SUV and whether it was indeed stolen. Officers are working with their counterparts in New South Wales to verify the registration details associated with the license plate.

Authorities are also reviewing CCTV footage from the area to identify the suspects or the movements of the black Peugeot in the hours leading up to the attempted theft. Police have noted a troubling pattern where stolen vehicles are often used to commit secondary crimes, such as break-ins, and are later abandoned or torched to destroy evidence.

Residents are being urged to keep an eye out for the black Peugeot SUV involved in this incident. The vehicle is described as a black Peugeot 3008 GT Line with New South Wales plates (CW 05 JL) and may still be on the Gold Coast or surrounding areas. Police believe the vehicle could play a key role in identifying the suspects and preventing further crimes.
