Police have charged three men following an alleged attempted theft and vandalism incident at a shopping centre in Coomera on September 27.
According to initial reports, around 4:50PM, a vehicle carrying three individuals arrived at a shopping complex on Foxwell Road. Two men, aged 23 and 26, exited the car and entered the shopping centre, making their way toward a jewellery store. Once inside, the pair allegedly attempted to break into a glass display cabinet using a tyre iron, repeatedly striking the glass in an effort to gain access to its contents. However, despite their attempts, they were unable to break the glass and ultimately left the store empty-handed.
The suspects then allegedly fled on foot, returning to the vehicle waiting outside with a 24-year-old man behind the wheel. Shortly after leaving the scene, the vehicle was intercepted by police on Creek Street, and all three men were taken into custody.
The driver, a 24-year-old man from Mount Warren Park, now faces multiple charges, including driving without a licence, an evasion offence in company, wilful damage, and entering premises with intent to commit an indictable offence. The two other suspects, a 23-year-old Coomera man and a 26-year-old Upper Coomera man, were each charged with wilful damage and entering premises with intent to commit an indictable offence.
Following their arrest, all three men were remanded in custody and are scheduled to appear at the Southport Magistrates Court on September 28.
This incident highlights the importance of vigilance and quick response in preventing theft attempts at local businesses. Police continue to encourage the public to report any suspicious activity they witness, particularly in commercial areas, to help deter and prevent similar incidents.
